Michigan will miraculously not be in the consolation game of the GLI this year after beating Michigan Tech 4-2 in an often sloppy game. Tech's Chris Connor made UM defenders look silly all game, but couldn't pick up any points to show for it.
Jason Ryznar, David Moss, and Charlie Henderson played extremely well for Michigan. Ryznar found the form he seems to grab periodically throughout the season where he dominates everyone on the boards and finds people with his passes. He made a ridiculous behind-the-back pass to Henderson for the go-ahead goal in the second period and picked up a Moss rebound and jammed it home in the third.
Henderson found himself in the right place to score on that Ryznar pass and also made a great pass to Moss to set up Ryznar's goal.
Tambellini also had a great game, firing off a ton of high quality shots and assisting on Michigan's final goal, a bang-bang-bang Tambellini to Nystrom to Moss PP beauty.
Michigan had a huge edge in shots on goal due largely to the forwards' ability to dominate the puck. Michigan Tech is a bad, bad defensive team but Connor's a dynamite little player and Michigan did a mediocre-at-best job of containing him and his teammates on D. I really don't have much faith in this defensive corps. Oh well.
MSU or UNH tomorrow. Haven't won the GLI since 1996. Do it to it.
